Carlos Tevez Always The Entertainer

Carlos Tevez has spent the last 5 years lighting up the Premier League both on and off the field.

Born in 1984 the 27 year old Argentine Striker has never strayed far from controversy. His first ” Dodgy ”transfer from All Boys to Boca Juniors led to him legally changeing his last name from his Father’s to his Mother’s maiden name Tevez at the age of 16.

He was still a teenager when he made his debut for the Buenos Aires club and went on to play 75 league games scoring 26 goals in 3 seasons at the club.

Tevez moved to Sao Paulo club Corinthians in a £14m deal in January 2005, a record for a South American transfer at the time.

Media Sports Investment is a UK based company that was created in 2004 when 2 business men invested in the Brazilian Football club Corinthians. It was they who negotiated and financed the purchase of Tevez, and while the Club held the Players Registration, the player was owned by Media Sports International.

Tevez was first introduced to the Premier League in a 2006 Deadline Day Shocker, West Ham United announcing at the 11th hour they had agreed a deal for the player and his International teammate Javier Mascherano. At the same time West Ham announced that Media Sports International was also in talks to buy the club.

The takeover never materialised and West Ham was fined £5.5m by the FA for transfer irregularities relating to third party ownership of the two players.

Mascherano played only a few games for West Ham during the 2006 – 07 seasons but Tevez was The Star Player and was held personally responsible for The Hammers survival in the Top Flight. Tevez scored the only goal of the game against Manchester United on the final day of the season saving West Ham and relegating Sheffield United in the process.

The FA had cleared Tevez to play against Manchester United after contract irregularities had been resolved but Sheffield United successfully argued that if Tevez had not played for West Ham in previous games while ineligible, Sheffield United would probably still be in the Premiership.

The day before court proceedings were to commence West Ham agreed to pay Sheffield United £20m in compensation over a 5 year period in an out-of-court settlement. Carlos Tevez may have kept West Ham in the Premier League but one Season probably cost West Ham United more than £30m.

Following more legal claims over ownership, Tevez joined Manchester United at the top of the Premier League on a 2 year loan deal in August 2007.

He played 99 Games scoring 34 goals for the Reds, winning the Premier League, The Champions League and the FA Cup in the process. Despite this the Club and the Fans Favourite could not agree a permanent deal and in July 2009 Tevez did the unthinkable and joined arch rivals Manchester City.

The controversy of such a move is obvious although not out of character for the Argentine. Banners depicting Tevez in Manchester City colours with the tag line ‘’ Welcome to Manchester ‘’ did little to help.

Soon after joining the club manager Mark Hughes was replaced by Roberto Mancini and ever since, rumours have persisted that Tevez and the new manager don’t enjoy each other’s company.

In December 2010 Tevez submitted a written transfer request which was promptly refused. Its subsequent retraction by the player was followed swiftly by the Club Captain pledging his loyalty to the Blues. City finished 4th in the Premier League qualifying for next seasons Champions League and won the FA cup.

Tevez has played 81 games for the Blue half of Manchester scoring an amazing 52 goals. He is currently under contract until the end of the 2014 Season but has again made clear his desire to leave.

Almost every club in the world has been linked with a move for the player since and on the 18th of July Manchester City announced that they had agreed a deal with former club Corinthians to sell the player for a reported £40m. In true Tevez stile the deal was off less than 48 hours later with City not sure the Brazilian club had the funds and Corinthians claiming the deal could not be done before the close of the Transfer Window in Brazil.

Hardly welcome back at Manchester City and with a £40m price tag, another loan move may well be on the cards. The one thing that’s for certain is, that the next club to employ Tevez is guaranteed continued entertainment and unlike most players, irrespective of the off-field distractions Tevez continues to perform at the highest level.
